Air Plane Componets

Airplanes are made up of 5 different sections. The fuselage is the middle section with the cabin and cock pit, the wing lets air flow around it and causes lift, the back of the plan is called the empemnage this is where most of the steering takes place. The landing gear allows the plane to set down. The power plant includes the engine and propeller. This was a easy chapter to get through because most of this stuff I already knew. This morning I watch a movie on this chapter at the flying club and helped make thing very clear. My next step is to start picking apart the engine and understanding how everything works. I understand that energy is made by intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust, tonight I'm going to study the carburetor to learn about the combustion step.

Nervous

My first real flying lesson is this weekend. I have no idea how ready I am; chapter 2 is so much harder than chapter 1. There are so many terms I have to learn. I decided to switch from Cornell notes to flash cards. With 30 to 40 terms per section and three sections per chapter it feels over welming. Here's my plan for the next three days. At 8 a.m I am going to the Flying club to warch chapter summaries in movie form. I am planning on watching them at least two times. My free periods, I continue to make flash cards on all of the terms. From 2 to 4 I go over the terms with my tutor.

I don't know if I am ready for my first flight lesson. I don't know if I'm supposed to read the book or completely memorize it. At first, I told my parents to cancel it because I would never be ready on time. After talking with my mentor, I decided the flight instructor would be my best source for finding out how ready I really am. I'm going to quit seconding guessing myself, finish the chapters, and memorize as much as I can. Maybe I just have to have a understanding of the terms not be able to build the plane. That's what I hope. Working in the text book has been so time consuming that I haven't spent time this week on my WISE bibliography, one of the questions I have for Ms. Lord is, as my studying becomes more focused can I ignore what feels like time wasters... ie watching flying movies.

My text book

Journal 20

I never thought my text book would go into so much detail. Comparing learning how to fly a plane compared to learning how to drive a car is completely different. Not just the fact that instead of being in the air your in the sky but all the extra information you need to know, example in my book i need to know everything on how a supercharged engine works and what it needs to be able to run correctly. When you are getting your drivers listens you just need to learn the rules of the road. there is no out side information on what kind of engine you will need to deal with most people don't even know how to change something as simple as the oil. but when it comes to planes i need to know what to do when the carburetor has ice in it and when to give it mixture. So the difference is huge its like I need to be able to build and fly a plane by the end of this project.
